Riddler Road Rally is a live, citywide scavenger hunt on wheels where teams compete in real time to solve clues using our app, navigate GPS-tracked locations, and claim victory. Each team gets a unique order of clues and checkpoints, so following another team won't help (and might even slow you down!). With pre-rally parties, surprise diversions, and swag, it's more than just a game—it’s an event. Every team entrance adds to the cash jackpot, with a guaranteed minimum that is split among the top teams. The better you place, the bigger your slice! You can rally solo or with a team of up to five players. Whether you're in a Ford GT or Pinto, bring your A-game.

Riddler Road Rally is all about adventure and connection—whether you're in it to claim victory and cash, feel the thrill of the game, or just enjoy a fun way to connect with your crew. It’s fast-paced, puzzle-driven fun that lets you experience the city in an entirely new way.
Registration is per team (1–5 players), and the cost may vary by event depending on organizers and sponsors. Many teams split the cost between players, making it easy on the wallet and part of every entry helps fund the growing jackpot.
You can follow teams in real time using the app leaderboard. Want to keep your friends front and center? Just tap their team to "pin" them to the top—perfect for friendly competition and bragging rights. After the event, you can see the results on the website.
Your assigned starting location will be released 24 hours before the event and will appear in the Riddler Road Rally app, along with directions and instructions. Starting points are always located within the advertised city.
Some events use multiple starting locations to better accommodate all teams and avoid crowding. While start times are the same for everyone, starting points are spread out. Each team still follows a different route, and our system ensures fair scoring regardless of where you start. If you'd like to begin at the same location as another registered team, visit the event details page and use the Team Requests tab to submit your request. Both teams must submit the request at least 24 hours in advance.
Yes! Your GPS must confirm your arrival before you’ll receive your first clue. Don’t risk a late start—arriving early gives you a smoother launch and time to enjoy the pre-rally party if one is scheduled.
If your event includes a pre-rally party, it will be held at your assigned starting location. Come early to grab swag, enjoy some treats, and kick off the fun before the rally begins!
Yes! You can register and join a rally after the official start time, as long as you leave enough time to finish before the gameplay window closes. Just keep in mind that starting late may make it difficult to stay competitive for the cash jackpot or reach time-sensitive swag diversions—especially if participating businesses close before you arrive. That said, it’ll still be a blast—so jump in and enjoy the adventure!
After registering your team, you can add or remove teammates anytime using the app or website. Each player will need to send you their Connection Code (found in their Profile), which you’ll enter under "Teams" in the app or “My Teams” on the website. You can also remove yourself from other teams or swap players as needed.

Teams solve a mix of destination and digital puzzles using the Riddler Road Rally app. Destination puzzles require you to decipher a location and drive there to see if you're correct. Digital puzzles are solved on-screen, and if answered correctly, you'll be shown where to drive next. Each team follows a unique route, and our patent-pending technology continuously adjusts for route length, hint usage, and early arrival penalties to ensure fair scoring. The live leaderboard reflects these factors in real time. However, if one team finishes earlier on a shorter route, other teams may pass them when they complete their longer route if they’ve solved puzzles more efficiently or taken fewer penalties.
All registered team members can play and submit puzzle answers from their own devices. While the team shares overall progress—meaning when one player solves a puzzle, the whole team advances—each player sees their own attempt and status on individual digital puzzles like matching games, word scrambles, or crosswords. Only the first correct submission counts, so once one player gets it right, the team moves forward automatically. Communication helps avoid duplicate work or missing a puzzle trigger.
Even after your team finishes, leaderboard rankings may still change. Each team receives a unique puzzle order, and our system adjusts for fairness based on route length, hint usage, and penalties. Teams still on the course may place higher if they complete their route more efficiently. In most cases, competitive teams finish within 45 minutes of each other. Winners will be presented at the post-rally meetup (announced in your app once you complete the event), or by email if no meetup is held.
Our patent-pending technology tracks your arrival time and compares it to the minimum safe travel time estimated by Google Maps. If you arrive at a puzzle location faster than you safely should, the app will notify you how early you are. You’ll have to wait that exact amount of time before continuing—and the same amount will be added to your score as a time penalty.
You can rally solo or with a team of up to five players. Every team member must be registered and have signed the Rules and Release of Liability. Registration is per team, so if you rally with others, you can easily split the cost—making it a fun and affordable way to compete together!
Working with anyone not on your registered team will result in disqualification.
No. Each team receives a unique puzzle order, so following others won’t help—in fact, it’ll likely take you in the wrong direction. Stick to your own route to stay competitive!
No. You’ll likely be driving away from your next location. Always park before solving puzzles and follow all traffic laws. Speeding will trigger a time penalty based on GPS-calculated safe travel times, and if you receive a ticket or cause an accident during the game, your team will be ineligible for the cash jackpot.
You’ll get a time penalty, but it may save you time overall by helping you solve the puzzle faster.
We allow a liberal GPS tolerance, so you won’t need to get out of your car or stand in a specific spot. If your location isn’t captured right away, it's usually just a delay in your device catching up. Try driving slowly around the area or double-check that you’re in the correct location. If it still doesn’t register after a minute, try switching the logged-in device.
Respect and courtesy at all times. No aggressive driving, harassment, unsafe behavior, or attempts to cheat or interfere with another team’s gameplay. Teams who violate these standards may be disqualified and banned from future events. This is a competitive game—but it's meant to be fun, fair, and safe for everyone.
Yes, most likely! While all teams visit the same locations, each team receives the clues in a different, randomized order. This means you may cross paths with other teams at various locations, even though you’re each on a different route. It’s part of the fun to spot fellow competitors—but always be respectful and avoid obstructing other teams. A little friendly energy is great—just keep it positive!
Riddler Road Rally is designed for registered players ages 18 and older. While only registered players are eligible for prizes and to participate, we trust each team to make responsible decisions about who rides with them. By signing the release, team members acknowledge they are responsible for anyone in their vehicle during the event.
A portion of every team registration goes directly into the cash jackpot. Once the guaranteed minimum is met, each additional team entry increases the total prize pool.
The jackpot is typically split between the top 3 teams—60% to 1st place, 25% to 2nd, and 15% to 3rd. However, the prize structure may vary by event, so check the event detail page for specific payout info.
If your team wins prize money, it will be evenly divided among all registered team members.
Yes. If your team wins, we’ll email you simple instructions, including how to submit an IRS Form W-9 to receive your share of the prize. The W-9 is a standard IRS form used to collect taxpayer information for reporting purposes. Failure to submit it will result in forfeiture of that member’s prize. All winners must also sign an affidavit confirming they did not receive a moving violation or cause an at-fault accident during the event. A 1099 form, which is used to report taxable income, will only be issued to individuals whose total winnings exceed the IRS reporting threshold for the calendar year.
The game relies heavily on internet and GPS, so occasional service hiccups are part of the experience and usually resolve quickly. If your app is spinning or stuck, it’s often due to spotty coverage—try driving a short distance to reconnect. In many cases, your location or puzzle may have already been captured.
While we’ve built in multiple safeguards to ensure stability, rare issues may still occur. In those cases, Riddler Road Rally will determine winners based on its best judgment using captured data and the circumstances of the event.
Swag Diversions are fun, optional side challenges that pop up during the event. You might be tempted to take a short detour or solve an extra puzzle in exchange for free swag or digital coupons. They won’t help your score—but they might score you something cool!
Answers are not case-sensitive but do require the correct singular or plural form. If you're confident your answer is close, try a slight variation. The answer box is designed to be flexible—so if you type something like "lady bug" instead of "ladybug," it will still be accepted. When in doubt, consider using a hint to save time, even if it adds a small penalty.
Several puzzles are interactive and may involve stepping out to gather information at a location, though most can be solved from inside your vehicle. You’ll never be asked to go far from your car—it will typically remain in sight at all times. You also won’t be asked to perform embarrassing tasks, stunts, or anything that makes you uncomfortable. Bring comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing, just in case.
A little prep goes a long way!
