Riddler Road Rally is a live, citywide scavenger hunt on wheels where teams compete in real time to solve clues using our app, navigate GPS-tracked locations, and claim victory. Each team gets a unique order of clues and checkpoints, so following another team won't help (and might even slow you down!). With pre-rally parties, surprise diversions, and swag, it's more than just a game—it’s an event.
Every team entrance adds to the cash jackpot, which is guaranteed at a minimum of $2,000 and split among the top teams. The better you place, the bigger your slice! You can rally solo or with a team of up to five players. Whether you're in a Ford GT or a Pinto, bring your A-game.

Riddler Road Rally is all about adventure and connection—whether you're in it to claim victory and cash, feel the thrill of the game, or just enjoy a fun way to connect with your crew. It’s fast-paced, puzzle-driven fun that lets you experience the city in an entirely new way.
Registration is per team (1–5 players), and the cost may vary by event depending on organizers and sponsors. Many teams split the cost between players, making it easy on the wallet—and part of every entry helps fund the growing jackpot, guaranteed at a minimum of $2,000!
You can follow teams in real time using the app or website leaderboard. Want to keep your friends front and center? Just tap their team name in the app leaderboard to “pin” them to the top—perfect for friendly competition and bragging rights.
Some events may have multiple starting locations to help spread out teams. If you'd like to start with another registered team, head to the event details page and use the "Team Requests" tab to request the same location. Both teams must submit the request, and it must be done at least 24 hours in advance.
Absolutely! Private Riddler Road Rally events are great for businesses, reunions, fundraisers, and clubs. We'll help you plan a customized experience with app-based clues, GPS navigation, and interactive challenges.

Teams solve a mix of destination and digital puzzles using the Riddler Road Rally app. Destination puzzles require you to decipher a location and drive there to see if you're correct. Digital puzzles are solved on-screen, and if answered correctly, you'll be shown where to drive next.
Each team follows a unique route, and our patent-pending technology continuously adjusts for route length, hint usage, and early arrival penalties to ensure fair scoring. The live leaderboard reflects these factors in real time. However, if one team finishes earlier on a shorter route, other teams may pass them when they complete their longer route if they’ve solved puzzles more efficiently or taken fewer penalties.
Only the team captain can submit answers through the app. All registered team members will be able to view the puzzles and follow along, but they won’t be able to enter responses. Occasionally, there may be a delay between what the captain sees and what team members see due to differences in device connection or signal strength.
Even so, team members play a critical role! Whether it’s helping crack ciphers, solve riddles, scout interactive puzzle locations, or throw out possible answers, there are tons of ways to contribute to your team’s success. Rallying together is part of the fun!
Our patent-pending technology tracks your arrival time and compares it to the minimum safe travel time estimated by Google Maps. If you arrive at a puzzle location faster than you safely should, the app will notify you how early you are. You’ll have to wait that exact amount of time before continuing—and the same amount will be added to your score as a time penalty.
Think of it like a referee’s call—it’s just part of the game. While we know that sometimes you might catch every green light, this system is in place to promote safe driving and ensure fair play. It also helps us comply with App Store and Google Play safety requirements—so the game can exist in the first place!
You can rally solo or with a team of up to five players. Every team member must be registered and have signed the Rules and Release of Liability. Registration is per team, so if you rally with others, you can easily split the cost—making it a fun and affordable way to compete together!
Working with anyone not on your registered team will result in disqualification.
No. Each team receives a unique puzzle order, so following others won’t help—in fact, it’ll likely take you in the wrong direction. Stick to your own route to stay competitive!
No. You’ll likely be driving away from your next location. Always park before solving puzzles and follow all traffic laws. Speeding will trigger a time penalty based on GPS- calculated safe travel times, and if you receive a ticket or cause an accident during the game, your team will be ineligible for the cash jackpot.
You’ll get a time penalty, but it may save you time overall by helping you solve the puzzle faster.
We allow a liberal GPS tolerance, so you won’t need to get out of your car or stand in a specific spot. If your location isn’t captured right away, it's usually just a delay in your device catching up. Try driving slowly around the area or double-check that you’re in the correct location. If it still doesn’t register after a minute, the team captain can switch roles to another member or device using the app or website and try again.
Your assigned starting location will be released 24 hours before the event and will appear in the Riddler Road Rally app, along with directions and instructions. Starting points are always located within the advertised city. If you'd like to ensure you start the rally with friends, both teams should submit a Team Request after registering—just in case multiple starting locations are assigned for the event.
Yes! Your GPS must confirm your arrival before you’ll receive your first clue. Don’t risk a late start—arriving early gives you a smoother launch and time to enjoy the pre-rally party if one is scheduled.
If your event includes a pre-rally party, it will be held at your assigned starting location. Come early to grab swag, enjoy some treats, and kick off the fun before the rally begins!
Yes! You can register and join a rally after the official start time, as long as you leave enough time to finish before the gameplay window closes. Just keep in mind that starting late may make it difficult to stay competitive for the cash jackpot or reach time-sensitive swag diversions—especially if participating businesses close before you arrive. That said, it’ll still be a blast—so jump in and enjoy the adventure
Respect and courtesy at all times. No aggressive driving, harassment, unsafe behavior, or attempts to cheat or interfere with another team’s gameplay. Teams who violate these standards may be disqualified and banned from future events. This is a competitive game—but it's meant to be fun, fair, and safe for everyone.
Likely! While each team has a unique route, it's common to cross paths at certain locations. It’s part of the fun to spot your competition, but remember to be respectful and never obstruct other teams. A little friendly energy is great—just keep it positive!
No. Only registered and approved players who have signed the release can be in the vehicle during gameplay.
A portion of every team registration goes directly into the cash jackpot. Once the guaranteed minimum of $2,000 is met, each additional team entry increases the total prize pool.
The jackpot is typically split between the top 3 teams—60% to 1st place, 25% to 2nd, and 15% to 3rd. However, the prize structure may vary by event, so check the event detail page for specific payout info.
If your team wins prize money, it will be evenly divided among all registered team members.
Yes. If your team wins, we’ll email you simple instructions, including how to submit an IRS Form W-9 to receive your share. Each team member must complete the form within 30 days. Winners must also sign an affidavit confirming they did not receive a moving violation or cause an at-fault accident during the event. A 1099 form will only be issued to individuals who earn over the IRS reporting threshold in a calendar year. Failure to complete the required form will result in forfeiture of that member’s winnings.
The game relies heavily on internet and GPS, so occasional service hiccups are part of the experience and usually resolve quickly. If your app is spinning or stuck, it’s often due to spotty coverage—try driving a short distance to reconnect. In many cases, your location or puzzle may have already been captured.
If the issue continues, you may need to redo the puzzle, and we recommend switching the team captain role to another player’s device if the original one isn’t responding. Only major, game-wide disruptions would result in a pause or adjustment to the game results.
While we’ve built in multiple safeguards to ensure stability, rare issues may still occur. In those cases, Riddler Road Rally will determine winners based on its best judgment using captured data and the circumstances of the event.
The captain can log into the Riddler Road Rally app on another team member’s device using their own credentials to continue gameplay. Alternatively, they can log into the website from any device and transfer the captain role to another registered team member. Either option keeps your team in the game without losing progress.
Swag Diversions are fun, optional side challenges that pop up during the event. You might be tempted to take a short detour or solve an extra puzzle in exchange for free swag or digital coupons. They won’t help your score—but they might score you something cool!
Answers are not case-sensitive but do require the correct singular or plural form. If you're confident your answer is close, try a slight variation. The answer box is designed to be flexible—so if you type something like "lady bug" instead of "ladybug," it will still be accepted. When in doubt, consider using a hint to save time, even if it adds a small penalty.
Several puzzles are interactive and may involve stepping out to gather information at a location, though most can be solved from inside your vehicle. You’ll never be asked to go far from your car—it will typically remain in sight at all times. You also won’t be asked to perform embarrassing tasks, stunts, or anything that makes you uncomfortable. Bring comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing, just in case.
A little prep goes a long way!
