Riddler Road Rally Rules

Game play rules

  1. Meet up with your team before the event starts. Your starting location will be visible within 24 hours of the event’s start time.
  2. Follow all local laws and regulations. That means don’t speed! We have patent-pending technology that will issue a time penalty if you drive to puzzle locations faster than Google Maps says you should be able to drive there legally and safely. Note: We recommend that the team captain NOT be the driver, so that they can focus on the puzzles.
  3. Don’t follow other teams; each team will have a random order of puzzles so their next puzzle will not be your next puzzle. Naturally, this creates some faster and some slower routes, however, we have patent-pending technology that equalizes the route times for correct team placement.
  4. Don’t work with anyone who is not a member of your team. Any violations will result in disqualification.
  5. There are two types of puzzles:
    • Destination puzzles: Decipher the location from the puzzle/riddle/problem and drive there to see if you are correct. Use hints if you are unsure—it might save you time from driving to the wrong location.
    • Digital puzzles: You are given a puzzle/riddle/problem, enter the answer(s) when prompted by the app. If correct, you will be given the GPS coordinates to the next location.
  6. Using a puzzle hint will result in a time penalty but may help you solve the puzzle faster.
  7. When you’ve arrived at a puzzle location, the team captain will click “Complete Puzzle” to verify your location. You may need to drive around the location if GPS does not capture you immediately or consider the possibility that you are at the wrong location.
  8. Have fun! Violation of these rules will result in immediate disqualification.

RALLY DYNAMICS

Car enthusiasts, ralliers, and game players are some of the coolest people on planet earth. Just a big reminder that no amount of fun, adrenaline, competition, or money is worth hurting another person or animal! There are no puzzles or clues that gain any advantage by driving while solving them—you might actually be driving farther away from your next location. Park, solve puzzles, drive safely!

Even though each team’s route is unique, it’s highly likely that you will be at a location at the same time as other teams. Be cool! Don’t obstruct any other teams or treat others in a way that belies awesomeness. This game isn’t for ragers or jerks! Any team that doesn’t treat others with respect and courtesy, or in any way demonstrates racism, threats, or negative behavior beyond reasonable competitive fun, will be disqualified and banned from future events.

Each team is comprised of 1-5 players. Each player must be registered and have signed a Riddler Road Rally Rules and Release of Liability. By signing this agreement and release, you are affirming that no one will be allowed in the vehicle during game play other than those who have also signed this agreement. Any violation will result in the team’s disqualification.

A portion of every entry fee will be added to the cash jackpot. Once enough teams have entered to cover the minimum guaranteed amount, each entry will increase the cash jackpot which will be shown on the website and app.

Cellular and internet service are an integral part of game play. While we are careful to make sure service is readily available there are circumstances beyond our control. Unless a game is substantially interrupted, temporary loss of service is considered part of game play.

Weather and traffic are also unknown factors and cannot always be predicted. Unless a game is substantially disrupted by weather, it is also considered part of game play.

If a weather forecast shows severe weather warnings, we reserve the right to cancel and reschedule a rally. In the event of a cancellation, you will be given a full refund. The rescheduled event will start over with the original minimum cash jackpot offering.

There are many technological aspects to the Riddler Road Rally app and website to help make sure that every team has an equal advantage in the game. However, there may be circumstances that are outside of our control. In the event of technological failures, Riddler Road Rally will determine winners based upon its best judgment.

All team members will be able to see the puzzles/riddles/problems, however, only the team captain will be able to enter puzzle answers. If the captain is not able to finish the game or wants to turn over the role of captain to another member, the captain can do so on the app or website. If the captain’s device becomes inoperable, the team captain will need to log in to the website or app on a working device to reassign the role because it can only be done from their account.

Allow yourself enough time to get to the starting location by the start time. GPS must capture you at your assigned location before you can get your first clue and you don’t want others to get a head start!

During the game, you might be offered Swag Diversions which will try to entice you to drive to a location outside of your game route in a certain amount of time, to get a free product or swag. Or you may get an offer to solve a puzzle/riddle/problem to get a free digital coupon delivered to you “wallet.” You have the option to disregard these and continue with the game. Because these diversions show up randomly, you might be offered one before your very first clue. Be prepared in advance to know what your team would rather do.

Answers are very specific in regard to being plural or singular. If you enter an answer that you are confident is correct and it shows incorrect, try entering it as plural or singular to see if that works.

Most of the game play is from the inside of your vehicle. However, there may be puzzles that do require you to leave the vehicle to solve it. Make sure to have shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather and any advertised event dynamics

RALLY TIPS

Put the Riddler Road Rally app on the same screen as your default GPS so you can go quickly back and forth between the two.

Fill your car with gas, have your water bottles and snacks handy, use the restroom beforehand, and a notepad and pen can come in handy for problem solving.

Make sure to have at least one other device besides the team captain’s so that if anything happens to it, you have other devices to use—especially if you are playing solo. If you only have one device, you might want to have an app or software that gives you the ability to scan a QR code from your own device screen.
