(Last update March 25, 2026)
Visit riddlerroadrally.com or open the Riddler Road Rally app and choose your event. You can create a team of up to 5 players.
Each teammate must create an account on the app or website.
To connect:
All players should install the Riddler Road Rally app and make sure it's updated to the latest version before rally day.
Your exact starting location will appear in the app 24 hours prior to your event. Some larger or special rallies may include a pre-rally party at the start location. When offered, these may include swag, treats, or sponsor experiences. If your event includes a pre-rally party, the details will appear in the event description and with the start location release.
Be at your starting location before the in-app countdown timer hits zero to be competitive. When the timer reaches zero, the Start Event button will appear in the app—tap it to begin your rally. Be in your car and ready to start right away. The app runs the entire event and will guide you through each step.
Teams can start late, but they will likely not be competitive on the leaderboard. The game is absolutely worth playing even if you begin well after the official start.
The event window typically stays open until 11:59 PM (check your event listing on the website for exact times). If swag diversions are offered and you start late, some may no longer be available if the participating business is closed.
Most rallies average 2–2.5 hours, though the exact length varies by event. See Scoring & Rankings for details on factors that can affect game time.
Once your team finishes the rally, your game is complete. Many teams like to make a day of it—grab dinner, laugh about the hits and misses, and watch the Rankings as other teams finish.
Some larger events may include post-rally meetups where teams can gather, compare notes, and celebrate. If your event includes one, the details will appear in the event description.
Follow all local laws—that means don't speed! Our patent-pending technology issues time penalties if you reach puzzle locations faster than Google Maps' legal drive time estimates.
Each team receives a randomized route order, so the location you're heading to may not match another team's. Our technology equalizes route times, so there's no advantage to following others.
Each team consists of 1–5 registered players. All players must be at least 18 and must sign the Riddler Road Rally Rules and Release of Liability. By signing, players agree to follow all rules and are responsible for the safe, lawful operation of their vehicle and the safety of any passengers they bring. Only registered players may participate in gameplay or receive prizes.
You may only collaborate with registered members of your own team. Working with people outside your team or with other teams will result in disqualification.
Hints are available on every puzzle but come with a time penalty. Using hints strategically can prevent wasted time or driving the wrong direction. The final hint reveals the correct answer.
If GPS doesn't register right away, move around the immediate area and try again. The app uses generous tolerances, so you won't need to pinpoint an exact spot.
Disruptions such as road closures, construction, events, or restricted access (e.g., a funeral at a cemetery) can occur. Capture GPS from nearby and use hints to reach the final answer. All teams face the same disruption, so fairness is maintained.
Violation of these rules including unsafe driving, cheating, or disrespecting other players will result in disqualification.
Every team's timer begins at the official event start time, regardless of when a player taps Start Event.
Each team receives puzzles in a different order, so routes and drive times will vary slightly.
Riddler Road Rally uses patent-pending scoring technology that removes estimated travel time between locations using Google Maps data. This ensures rankings reflect actual gameplay time, not distance driven.
Your total game time is made up of:
During the rally, both Rankings and Gap Scoring update in real time as teams complete puzzles. These standings will shift throughout the event and are not final until the rally closes.
Gap Scoring shows how far behind the first-place team you currently are. The first-place team is displayed as 0, which serves as the baseline for comparison.
Puzzle orders are randomized, so some teams may receive easier puzzles early on and appear ahead at first. As teams progress through different puzzle difficulties, rankings naturally adjust.
When a team finishes, a purple flag appears next to their name in the Rankings. Their placement may continue to move up as teams ahead finish and fall below them in the rankings, but it will never move down.
Final results will appear on the website Results page after the event officially closes.
Never solve puzzles while driving. Park first, then play. There's no advantage to solving on the road, you may even be heading in the wrong direction!
You may encounter other teams at puzzle locations. Be respectful—rudeness, aggression, or interference may result in disqualification and/or a ban from future rallies.
Some rallies offer optional swag diversions that lead to free products, digital coupons (sent to your app wallet), or other extras. Decide with your team ahead of time whether you want to take them. Not all events include swag diversions—check the event description for details.
Use the in-app chat to message other teams during the rally and stir up some friendly rivalry. Find it on the Play Event tab under the puzzles. Do not discuss puzzles, clues, or answers with other teams.
A portion of each team's entry fee adds to the cash jackpot. After the guaranteed minimum is reached, every additional team increases the prize pool. The current jackpot is shown in the app and on the website.
Winning teams will receive an email with instructions for completing the required W-9 and affidavit forms. This email is typically sent the next business day, but no later than three business days after the event closes.
Cellular and internet service are required for gameplay. While rallies are designed in areas with coverage, occasional disruptions may occur and are considered part of the experience unless the game is substantially interrupted.
Weather and traffic are part of the challenge. If severe weather warnings occur before the event, Riddler Road Rally may cancel and refund your entry. Rescheduled rallies restart with the original prize minimum.
We use advanced systems to ensure fair gameplay, but in the event of significant technical difficulties, Riddler Road Rally will determine winners at its sole discretion.
Use split-screen or toggle between your navigation app and the Riddler app to avoid missing turns or clues.
Before the rally, fuel up, pack snacks and water, and make sure everyone has used the restroom. A notepad and pen can help with puzzles.
If you only have one phone, take a screenshot of the QR code and tap the image.
If the app freezes or stalls, tap Refresh or log out and back in to reconnect.
Some puzzles may require getting out of your car to read signs, inspect landmarks, or find details not visible from the road. Dress appropriately for the weather and terrain.
Answers must be entered exactly as intended. Pay attention to whether it should be singular or plural. If you're confident your answer is right, but it's marked incorrect, try the other form.
Feel free to use Google, maps, AI, or any other tools to help solve puzzles. Just remember—you may only collaborate with members of your own team.
